The last few months have been extremely difficult for Amboseli women master beaders because their region is experiencing abnormal weather patterns that have upended their daily lives. Climate change has resulted in severe drought conditions that have led to an acute water shortage. Consequently, the distance to fetch water is getting longer and longer with each passing day —  putting an extra burden on the women and their families.

Milk production and consumption has also dropped drastically, and as a result the risk of malnutrition is high for children ages 6-60 months. Many of the women are reducing the amount of food served and the frequency of feeding their families due to the economic hardship that the water crisis has created.

The drought situation paints a dire picture of the unexpected setbacks that these stoic and industrious Maasai women have to endure as they strive to support themselves and their families.

Kazana encourages you to continue standing in the gap for our unbowed and resilient global sisters. Keep them in your thoughts and please join us in being a hummingbird for their plight.
