Inchurra Women's Group, Enkong'u Narok, Amboseli, Kenya

We are the Inchurra Women’s Group of Enkong’u Narok, Amboseli. Enkong’u Narok is in the Entonet/Lenkism Ward under the team leadership of MCA Hon. Paul Metui Muterian. We feel very honored and extremely grateful for the opportunity to share our joy, work and triumphs with you.

Inchurra Women’s Group is made up of dynamic Maasai women who have been working in unity for generations. Together we have worked hard to uplift ourselves and our families economically — relying wholly on our God-given talents to make ends meet. Our celebrated aesthetics and expertise in beadwork has been our saving grace.

Due to our close proximity to the award-winning Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge and Ol Tukai Lodge Amboseli, we have over the years managed to sell creative pieces (Maasai necklaces, bracelets, belts, etc.) to local and international visitors who stop by our bomas en route. Unfortunately, drought and low tourism numbers have significantly affected beadwork sales.

Despite the setbacks, we have not stopped beading. We are determined to find new markets and fresh opportunities so that we can keep our children in school. Our goal is to see them from baby class through their university education.

You will be delighted to know that we recently registered the women’s group with the Government of Kenya. We then went ahead and opened our first bank account with Equity Bank. The greatest joy and achievement is that we sold-out our “Amboseli Women” postcards, and a special line of holiday jewelry, and banked all the proceeds in the new savings account. No doubt, a bright future is in the horizon.

We are grateful to our families, friends, partners and well-wishers who continue to support our entrepreneurial efforts. Each expression of solidarity goes a long way in helping us realize the vision we have for our children. We invite you to visit us when in Enkong’u Narok, Amboseli.
